Chapter 1

The Wedding Night Ultimatum

Chained to His Bed · Victoria Sterling · 5 min read

The neon lights of the Las Vegas Strip burned like a sea of synthetic stars outside the panoramic three-story glass walls of the Bellagio Sky Villa.

Midnight had come and gone, yet inside the private penthouse suite, the air was suffocatingly still. On the marble dining table lay an empty crystal tumbler of Macallan 25, a signed Nevada marriage certificate, and a sixty-million-dollar cashier's check made out to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Mia DeLuca stood near the glass, her back to the room, her fingernails biting into her palms. She wore an off-the-shoulder gown of silver silk that clung to her slender curves, her dark auburn waves spilling over her bare shoulders, her honey-hazel eyes luminous with unshed tears of defiance.

Behind her, the heavy click of a lighter snapped in the quiet room.

Dante Moretti exhaled a thin plume of cedar-scented smoke from a Cuban cigarillo, standing six-foot-three of imposing, athletic muscle wrapped in a bespoke black tuxedo. At thirty-two, Dante Moretti was the undisputed emperor of the Nevada gaming underworld—a billionaire whose predatory gaze had dismantled hedge funds and sent international cartels fleeing the desert. He had sharp, Mediterranean cheekbones, a severe, aristocratic jawline, and piercing ice-gray eyes.

"Turn around, Mia," Dante commanded. His deep, gravelly baritone rolled through the penthouse like distant thunder, quiet yet vibrating with absolute authority.

Mia took a slow, steadying breath, forced her chin up, and turned to face her new husband.

"The wedding is over, Mr. Moretti," Mia said, her voice clear, musical, and as sharp as a diamond edge. "The minister has left. My father’s debt has been paid. What else do you want from me?"

Dante stubbed out his cigarillo in a crystal ashtray on the bar, taking two slow, deliberate steps toward her. His dark eyes swept over her pale porcelain skin, lingering on the proud arch of her throat and the fierce, electric fire burning behind her hazel eyes. A slow, dangerous smile curled the corner of his lips.

"I want everything, Mrs. Moretti," Dante murmured, his voice dropping an octave, turning low, husky, and intimate. "Your father sold you to me to escape twenty years in a federal penitentiary after your scumbag ex-fiancé Leo Sterling gambled away your family's hotels. I paid sixty million dollars to clear that debt. In return, the contract states you belong to me."

Mia’s jaw tightened, her cheeks flushing with indignant fury. "I am not a poker chip, Dante. I am a human being. If you think you can lock me in this penthouse and treat me like your property, you have severely underestimated who you married."

Dante stopped six inches in front of her. His sheer physical size seemed to swallow the light, his immense broad shoulders casting a shadow that trapped her against the glass. The raw, masculine heat radiating from him was suffocating, carrying the scent of expensive bergamot, smoke, and clean rain.

Slowly, his large, warm hand rose, his long fingers cupping her jawline with surprising gentleness, tilting her face up to meet his dark, predatory gaze.

"You have a fierce little mouth, Mia," Dante whispered, his thumb lightly stroking the softness of her bottom lip, sending a violent jolt of electricity racing straight down her spine. "I like that. I have no use for weak, obedient dolls. But make no mistake, sweetheart. You will sleep in my bed. You will wear my rings. And whenever I look at you, you will remember that you are mine—body, mind, and soul."

Mia’s pulse hammered wildly against his fingers, but her hazel eyes refused to waver. "You can chain me to your bed, Dante Moretti. But you will never own my heart."

Dante chuckled—a low, rumbling sound that vibrated warm against her ribs. He leaned down until his lips brushed the shell of her ear, his warm breath raising delightful goosebumps across her skin.

"Then consider it a challenge, my queen," Dante murmured. "Because by the time I'm done with you, you will beg me never to let you go."

The neon glow of the Las Vegas Strip bathed the Bellagio penthouse in electric violet and liquid amber, casting long, dramatic shadows across the polished white marble floor.

Mia stood pinned between the cool glass of the sixty-story window and the suffocating, magnetic heat of Dante Moretti. Her breath hitched in her throat, her chest heaving beneath the silver silk of her wedding gown. For six months, since Leo Sterling had forged her father's signature on promissory notes and embezzled sixty million dollars from her family's hotel firm to gamble at Dante's high-stakes baccarat tables, before attempting to flee toward Macau, Mia had felt like a condemned prisoner waiting for the executioner.

And now, here stood the executioner—an apex predator in a tailored tuxedo, who had bought her family's debts with a single signature and demanded her body as collateral.

Dante’s ice-gray eyes never left her face. He reached out, his thumb lightly brushing against the rapid, erratic beat of her pulse point at the base of her throat.

"You look at me like you expect me to tear you apart, Mia," Dante murmured, his deep, gravelly baritone sending a shiver straight down to her toes. "You think I'm a ruthless monster who takes pleasure in breaking women."

Mia forced her chin up, her honey-hazel eyes blazing with diamond-hard pride. "You're a casino king, Dante. You built an empire on people's ruin. You threatened my father with federal prison if I didn't walk down this aisle. What else am I supposed to think?"

Dante’s jaw tightened, a muscle feathering along his sculpted cheekbone. Slowly, he leaned in until his nose was an inch from hers, his breath carrying the rich scent of cedarwood, aged tobacco, and dark, intoxicating desire.

"Your father walked into that ruin with open eyes, Mia," Dante whispered softly, his voice dropping into a deadly, intimate register. "I didn't steal his hotels. Leo Sterling gambled them away at my baccarat tables. I could have liquidated the DeLuca name and left you on the street without a dime. But I gave your father sixty million dollars, and I gave you a wedding ring. You are not a prisoner here, Mia. You are the wife of Dante Moretti. And in this city, nobody touches what belongs to me."

He stepped back, turning toward the master suite, his broad shoulders commanding the room. "The bed is waiting, Mrs. Moretti. Come."

The heavy mahogany doors of the master suite clicked shut behind them, sealing out the hum of the Bellagio penthouse.

Mia stood in the center of the vast, dimly lit room, her hands clenched at her sides as she took in the California king bed draped in black silk linen. She could hear the quiet rasp of Dante's breathing behind her, the solid weight of his presence filling the space with an electric tension that made her knees tremble.

Yet as Dante reached out, unbuttoning his tuxedo cuffs and laying his watch on the marble nightstand without making a single threatening demand, Mia felt the first crack in her armor of fear. The man standing before her was ruthless, powerful, and feared by half the state of Nevada; but in his eyes, there was no cruelty. There was only the dark, unyielding patience of a man who intended to win her heart.
