Synopsis

Hot Steamy Alpha Male Dark Romance Captive Cartel

Investigative journalist Camila Cruz thought she was hunting a story about human trafficking when she infiltrated a fortified desert hacienda in Sonora. Instead, she walked straight into the lair of the most feared cartel king in Mexico—Mateo Vega, known as 'El Jaguar'. Expecting a brutal execution, Camila is stunned when the lethal, amber-eyed warlord spares her life and locks her in his private mountain estate. In a world of blood, desert sandstorms, and uninhibited passion, the line between captor and lover blurs into a dangerous obsession that neither can escape.

Chapter 1

The Trap in Sonora

The desert night in northern Sonora was freezing, carrying the sharp, dusty scent of dry sagebrush and mesquite smoke.

Camila Cruz crouched in the shadow of a sprawling stone archway inside the Hermosillo transit depot of the Vega cartel, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped hummingbird. She wore dark utility pants, a fitted black long-sleeved shirt, and her camera strap tucked securely across her chest.

In her hand was a miniature digital flash drive containing sixty high-resolution photographs of encrypted shipping manifests, weapons serial numbers, and cross-border bank routing documents she had extracted from the estate’s private second-floor study twenty minutes ago.

She was an investigative journalist for the *Chicago Chronicle*, and she had spent three weeks posing as an agricultural botanist studying agave cultivation to get behind these fortified walls.

*If I get this drive across the border to Nogales,* she thought, slipping the drive into the hidden zippered pocket of her bra, *I will expose the entire syndicate. I will win the Pulitzer.*

Suddenly, an alarm siren began to wail from the courtyard watchtowers.
