Chapter 3

Velvet Leverage

The Price of Betrayal · Isla Montgomery · 6 min read

The silence in the penthouse was thick and suffocating, charged with the crackle of raw, illicit tension. Outside, the rain continued to beat against the glass in a furious percussion, while inside, Vivienne Vance stood pinned beneath the obsidian gaze of Wall Street’s most dangerous predator.

Her heart hammered against her ribs like a trapped bird. Her mind was racing, weighing the stakes. An hour ago, her life had imploded. Her marriage had been exposed as a grotesque lie, her family's wealth threatened by the man she had trusted. And now, the most powerful, intimidating bachelor in the country was offering her absolute retribution—on the condition of total, unconditional surrender.

"You've wanted this for a long time, haven't you?" Vivienne asked softly, her voice trembling slightly despite her best efforts. "This isn't about Julian. You’ve been waiting for an opening."

Sebastian didn't deny it. His large hand slid from her throat to rest against the warm, bare curve of her shoulder, his thumb tracing the delicate ridge of her collarbone with a touch that was surprisingly tender, yet laced with undeniable possession.

"Three years ago, at the Whitney Museum gala," Sebastian murmured, his dark eyes reflecting the amber city lights. "You were wearing a champagne gown, standing in front of a Sargent portrait. Julian was by your side, preening like a peacock, completely oblivious to the extraordinary creature he had caged. I swore to myself that night that if he ever slipped, if he ever gave me a single reason to take you from him, I would not hesitate for a second."

He stepped closer, eliminating the last inch between them. His hard chest pressed against the soft swell of her breasts, and Vivienne could feel the heavy, steady thud of his heart. The raw, masculine heat radiating from him was intoxicating, a stark, overwhelming contrast to Julian's superficial vanity.

"Julian didn't just slip, Vivienne," Sebastian whispered, his lips brushing the sensitive skin below her ear, sending a wave of delicious shivers cascading down her spine. "He committed treason. He traded gold for trash. And now, the queen has walked into my castle."

Vivienne closed her eyes, breathing in the rich scent of cedar, leather, and dark desire that belonged entirely to him. For two years, she had felt like an ornament—a strategic asset Julian used to flatter his fragile ego. But in Sebastian's arms, under his starving, possessive stare, she felt fiercely, terrifyingly alive. A spark of dangerous defiance ignited within her.

"If I agree to this, Sebastian," she said, opening her eyes to meet his piercing gaze, "I am not a trophy to be traded from one man's shelf to another. If we do this, I am your equal partner. We destroy Julian together. I want to see his face when the floor opens beneath him."

A slow, devastating smile spread across Sebastian's sculpted lips. "I would expect nothing less from you, my fierce queen. You will sit at the head of the table. You will deliver the blow. But tonight... tonight belongs to us."

He didn't wait for her to answer. With a swift, commanding movement, Sebastian wrapped his arm around her slender waist, lifting her effortlessly against his body as his mouth crashed down upon hers.

Vivienne gasped, and Sebastian seized the opportunity to deepen the kiss, his tongue tangling with hers in a hungry, possessive masterclass of passion. The kiss was not gentle; it was a claiming. It was the unleashed longing of a man who had waited years to taste forbidden fruit, filled with raw hunger, heat, and unbridled dominance.

A low moan escaped Vivienne's throat as she wound her arms around his broad neck, burying her fingers in his thick, dark hair. Every lingering trace of the heartbreak and humiliation she had suffered an hour earlier was scorched away by the volcanic inferno of Sebastian's touch. Her body betrayed her with instant, shameless desire, her hips arching instinctively against the rigid hardness pressing through his trousers.

Sebastian groaned against her lips, his hands gripping her hips, lifting her onto the edge of the black marble bar. The cool stone was a shock against the backs of her thighs, but the heat between them was scorching. He parted her legs, stepping between them, his hands gliding up the silky fabric of her emerald dress, bunching it toward her waist until his calloused palms met the bare, heated satin of her thighs.

"You have no idea how long I’ve dreamed of having you on this counter, Vivienne," he growled against her jawline, his teeth grazing the tender hollow of her throat. "Every time I saw you on his arm, it was torture. You were never meant for a coward like Julian. You were made for a monster who knows how to worship you."

He broke the kiss for a moment, his chest heaving, his dark eyes ablaze with raw, undisguised lust. His fingers brushed against the lace of her underwear, finding her already wet and aching with fierce need.

Vivienne shivered, her hands clutching his broad shoulders, digging her manicured nails into the fabric of his shirt. "Show me, Sebastian," she whispered, her emerald eyes daring him, burning with equal parts vengeance and desire. "Show me what it feels like to belong to a man who isn't afraid to take what he wants."

Sebastian’s jaw tightened, his eyes darkening to absolute pitch. He unbuckled his leather belt with a sharp flick of his wrist, pulling down the zipper of his slacks. With one smooth, deliberate motion, he hooked his fingers into the lace of her panties and tore them aside, letting the scrap of silk flutter to the floor.

He positioned himself at her entrance, the blunt, velvet head of his erection pressing against her soaking core. Vivienne gasped, her breath catching as she felt the sheer size and heat of him.

"Look at me, Vivienne," Sebastian commanded in a low, husky growl, cupping her face in his large hand and forcing her to hold his gaze. "I want you to see the man who owns you now."

With a slow, agonizingly deliberate thrust, Sebastian pushed his hips forward, burying himself completely inside her tight, dripping warmth.

The penthouse seemed to shrink, the vast expanse of glass and granite fading into insignificance compared to the sheer gravity of Sebastian's presence. Vivienne felt the heat radiating from his broad chest, soaking through the thin silk of her dress. Her mind, usually so analytical and detached, was a swirl of conflicting impulses—the cool, rational instinct to maintain boundaries, and the overwhelming, electric desire to let this dangerous man tear down every defense she had spent years constructing.

"You think you're gambling with the devil, Vivienne," Sebastian rumbled, his lips brushing the shell of her ear, his breath sending delicious shivers skittering across her skin. "You think this is a desperate bargain made in the dark. But you have no idea how long I have envisioned this moment. I have watched you walk into boardrooms and dominate rooms full of cowardly men twice your age. I have seen the fire inside you that Julian was too small, too pathetic to ever understand."

His hands gripped her hips, his thumbs pressing firmly into the curve of her waist, anchoring her against his rock-hard frame. The feeling of his unyielding strength was dizzying, a drug that wiped clean the memory of every insult, every condescending dismissal she had endured.

"You were meant to be held by someone who could match your fire," Sebastian whispered, his obsidian eyes dark with possessive hunger. "Someone who would burn the world to the ground before letting a single tear fall from your eyes."
