Chapter 4

The Royal Lycan Spark

Alpha of the Shadow Pack · Kieran Thorne · 2 min read

The moment their gazes collided, reality splintered.

A shockwave of searing heat detonated behind Selene's sternum. It wasn't the dull ache of a standard pack bond; it was a cosmic, electrifying collision that surged through her veins like liquid lightning. Her vision flared in brilliant silver, while inside her mind, a dormant, long-slumbering presence roared to life with deafening power.

The black wolf recoiled as if struck by lightning. Its golden eyes dilated, pupils expanding until molten fire swallowed the irises. It took a single step toward her, nostrils flaring as it inhaled her scent.

*Mine.*

The word echoed inside Selene's head—not spoken, but carved directly into her soul with the authority of an ancient deity. It was deep, dark, and filled with possessive hunger so immense it brought tears to her eyes.

Before her eyes, the monstrous wolf began to shift.

Bones cracked and realigned with terrifying fluid grace. Fur receded into sun-bronzed skin corded with battle scars and sheer power. Within seconds, a man stood before her amidst the howling blizzard, heedless of the freezing winds.

He stood six-foot-four, with the physique of a warrior king—broad shoulders, tapered waist, and lethal symmetry carved out of granite. Dark, raven hair fell in wild strands around a chiseled jaw shadowed with dark stubble. But it was his face that stole her breath: rugged, aristocratic, and devastatingly handsome, dominated by those burning molten-gold eyes.

He pulled a heavy fur-lined cloak from a strap at his waist, draping it over his broad shoulders as he took two long, purposeful strides toward her.

Selene tried to raise her blade, but her frozen fingers betrayed her. The knife slipped from her hand, sinking into the snow. Weakened by hypothermia and the shock of the bond, her knees buckled.

Before she could hit the ground, two massive, warm arms caught her.

Kaelen Ward gathered her slender frame against his chest. His body radiated staggering heat, like an open furnace. The intoxicating scent of crushed pine, winter mint, and dark leather enveloped her, banishing the deadly frostbite from her skin.

"Look at me," his deep voice rumbled, rough with raw, barely restrained emotion.

Selene forced her eyelids open, staring into the golden depths of his eyes.

"Who are you?" she whispered weakly.

His thumb traced the frozen contour of her cheekbone, wiping away a stray snowflake with reverence.

"I am Kaelen Ward," he answered softly, his voice vibrating against her cheek. "And you are my fated mate. The true Luna of the Shadow Ridge."
