Synopsis

Enemies to Lovers High Heat Irish Mob Mafia King Investigative Reporter Transatlantic Underworld

When investigative reporter Maeve O'Connor infiltrates the notorious Black Rose nightclub in South Boston to avenge her murdered father—a decorated BPD captain framed and executed by the underworld—she finds herself trapped in the lethal orbit of Liam 'The Reaver' Callahan. Sovereign boss of the Boston Irish syndicate, Liam is as dangerous as he is fiercely honorable. Instead of eliminating the woman who pulled a gun on him, Liam drags her across the Atlantic to his ancestral fortress on the rugged cliffs of Connemara, Ireland, revealing a terrifying truth: they share the same enemy, a corrupt cartel that poisoned the city. In the wild heart of Ireland, amid ancient clan councils, sniper ambushes, and rain-swept battlements, their fierce hostility ignites into a scorching, unbreakable passion. Together, they wage an all-out war for truth, reclaiming Boston's waterfront and crowning an empire of silk, steel, and eternal love.

Chapter 1

Rain on the Harbor

The stakeout at Pier 44 had begun six hours earlier in the cramped, rain-streaked front seat of Maeve O'Connor's ten-year-old Subaru.

Parked three blocks away behind an abandoned cold-storage warehouse on Terminal Street, Maeve had reviewed her notes by the dim red glow of her dashboard clock. Her reporter's notebook was crammed with shipping manifests, container registration codes, and names that made her blood turn to ice: Blackwood Bio-Tech, Falcone Enterprises, and offshore holding trusts registered in the Cayman Islands.

Three days ago, an encrypted digital audio file had been dropped into her secure ProtonMail inbox.

The voice was distorted, but the message was chillingly explicit:

*"Tell Captain O'Connor's daughter that the ship that killed her father docks at Pier 44 on Tuesday at midnight. The Panamanian freighter 'Esperanza'. Look for forty-foot refrigerated containers stenciled with blue medical caducei. If she has half her father's spine, she will bring a camera and an escape route."*

Maeve had checked the chamber of her father's old service revolver—a snub-nosed Smith & Wesson .38 Special he had given her on her twenty-first birthday—before slipping it into the waterproof pocket of her heavy wool trench coat.
